Trustees' Garden Club

Colonial Cemetery

A three-year project, the restoration of Colonial Park Cemetery, Georgia’s second oldest burial ground was begun in the late 1960s. Members researched ironwork, colonial plantings, and tombstone and brick repair. They performed much of the latter work themselves. With community financial assistance, the Club refurbished the Cemetery with new watering systems, tabby walks and decorative iron gates creating an inner-city retreat for Savannahians and visitors alike. To this day, members provide maintenance.
